Happy New Year!
Today is the day to start working on resolutions to better ourselves for the year to come. As we make steps toward a better body, larger vocabulary, more home-cooked meals, ect., remember not to belittle our present self. Making change is a challenge, and the road to success is only harder and more laborious when it is filled with self-doubt. And more often than not these bad thoughts lead to failure.
One of my resolutions is to work out everyday of the week to have a flatter stomach. Sometimes it becomes extremely hard not beat myself up about missing a day or still not fitting into a dress from a couple years ago, but I know I can’t. Harboring over moments like those only results in me not feeling great in anything I wear.
So what does this have to do with style? Everything. Great style is more than designer labels and glitz, it starts with you. If you do not think you look good, no one else will.
For those of you who haven’t caught the reference, this tip is a twist of a lyric from a single on Beyoncé’s self-titled album, BEYONCÉ. ***Flawless featuring Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is my feminist, womanist, and life mantra. The phrase “I woke up like this”, along with the entire album, has appeared all over social media and has inspired thoughtful statuses and articles about feminism and standards of beauty.
Stay flawless by finding and embracing the perfection of your imperfections.
